Zambhala Yoga Festival Goa

January 1st, 2014 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

In December 2013, the first ever yoga festival in Goa was held at a wonderful location on the Northern beaches of Ashwem. It was a huge event with teachers from around the world offering classes, workshops, talks and demonstrations. There was something for everyone and it was interesting to see the different styles of yoga offered by the teachers…..even though some classes didn’t resemble yoga at all !!!

Unbelievably, we met with Aanika from Yogamasti from whom I buy most of my yoga wear. Aanika was at the festival offering her range of yoga clothing and other beautiful items …the colours blending perfectly with the blue sky and sea of sunny Goa. Aanika offers such good quality clothing and many of my students often ask as to where I buy my yoga clothing. So check out Annikas website at  www.yogamasti.com

So we are now at the beginning of 2014 and I hope that those who have not yet experienced the jewels that yoga has to offer, may be introduced to this Spiritual and life enhancing practice at some point this year. We must all spread the word so the teachings of yoga can touch everyone’s life and bring more peace and contentment to all.  Happy New Year and many Blessings. Om Shanti….Debbie.

Thought of the day by Donna Farhi

Become a vessel for life,

Breathing is one of the simplest things in the world. We breathe in, we breathe out. When we breathe with real freedom, we neither grasp for nor hold onto the breath. No effort is required to pull the breath in or push the breath out. Given the simplicity of breathing one would think it was the easiest thing to do in the world. However, if it was truly so easy there would be few unhappy or unhealthy people in the world.

To become a welcome vessel for the breath is to live life without trying to control, grasp, or push away. And how easy is this? The process of breathing is the most accurate metaphor we have for the way we personally approach life, how we live our lives, how we react to the inevitable changes that life brings us.

Just listen to your breath for inner peace and guidance……

Hello Friends and welcome!

As I write my eyes are continually being diverted to the window where the sun is slowly beginning to set. The storm clouds and fierce winds have subsided and this early evening has become calm and serene with blue sky and only a few, wispy cotton wool clouds hovering above. The scene is one of pure beauty, inspiration and true magic. I find myself putting down the computer and taking a little time out to go outside and ‘be at one’ with this very magical but fleeting moment. But even as I marvel at this daily miracle of life, my mind still wanders to my business yet to be done for the day and my week. I am only half with nature and the Universe, the other half of me is in my mind, far away from the present moment ! This reminds me of a blog I once read by another yoga teacher I met when on a retreat in America. Her words resonated as she said that we have ” evolved into a human species that lives in the mind where our human traits and habits are engraved in all of us”. Changing this habit of constantly multi-tasking our thoughts is a very difficult task but it is possible to live life in the present moment instead of in our heads!
We need to begin by slowing down, to breathe consciously and pause the on going demands of life. We need to bring our attention inward and rediscover our authentic nature. Simply by conscious breathing we can connect with the intelligence and power of the life force within and around us. We can take time to be present with the people in our life, to listen to what they are saying, to give them our full attention and to pay attention to ourselves. Whenever we find ourselves in our heads, take a breath and practice keeping your mind , body and soul right where you are in that very moment in time. You can then draw on a deep sense of ease, purpose and mastery to create positive change.

If you are interested in positive change, why don’t you consider embarking on my teacher training course beginning in June. The beautiful Hills of Malvern are within easy reach of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire…and beyond !! If you wish to study yoga and rediscover yourself, please feel free to get in touch and find out more information. The style of class I teach is very varied from vinyasa flow to restorative and therapeutic yoga. I teach mantra and meditation, beginners to advanced.

So I urge you this month to slow down, bring more awareness to your breath and watch Springtime unfold…..and for me, to experience the glorious sunsets over the magical Malvern hills and be at one with it.

Om Shanti
Debbie (Shakeela)
